Scott Anderson is a Master Gunnery Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. He has 18 years in the Marines, and has been a reserve police officer for 13 years.

Firearms instruction for pilots

Here is an article from the Washington Post, in a then timely discussion of training pilots in firearms so that they might arm themselves in the cockpit. While this issue may have disappeared from the media, Front Sight and Dr Ignatius Piazza feel this issue is still quite relevant to our security as a nation.

Rick Kaufman has been an avid shooter for well over 20 years, and involved with Front Sight since its very inception. This was taken from a six month period. Per this report, the city with the lowest crime levels had a combined incidence of reported violent crimes and property crimes of 949 for the six-month period. The highest city reported 109,614 crimes. Violent crimes include murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.1. Provo, Utah with 43 violent crimes

Getting a grasp on violent hate crime

Hate crimes are criminal offenses motivated by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. 61% of hate crimes are motivated by race; 14% by religion; 11% by ethnicity; 13% by sexual orientation; and less than 1% by disability.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics most recent report on Hate Crimes, released in September 2001, 84% of the victims of violent hate crimes were most likely individuals, as opposed to businesses. Most victims of the most violent hate crimes were between the ages of 13 and 34 years.

13% of violent felons in our prison system had raped or sexually assaulted children under the age of 13 years according to the Department of Justice report Child Victimizers: Violent Offenders and Their Victims released in 1996, the most recent study available documenting child offenders,. Three out of four of those children were female.

What’s Behind the False Alarm Epidemic

We hear the reports; many police departments are unwilling to answer calls to homes and businesses that have excessive false alarms. Or, they will answer, but assess a fat $100 to $1,000 fee for any false alarm responses over two or three. This can get expensive real fast. And if you don’t pay the fee, they just won’t come out any more.

Security providers are feeling the squeeze too, because many of them depend on police departments to provide the response to the calls. Without this reliable call-response system working, the whole machine gets mucked up.
