Front Sight Mail Bag: Seasoned Shooter Enjoyed Gun Training Reports

March 11th, 2009

Dr. Piazza,

I have an extensive Marine Corps and Civil Law enforcement background and recently I experienced what you described in “Point Shooting”.

For the last 4 years or so I have been an Officer with the Department of Corrections.? The Pistol Qualification Course and Off-Duty Gun Course have three strings of fire.? The second is Point Shooting at 7 yards.? It took me two years to “Learn” to point shoot after a lifetime of sighted shooting.? The instructors correct you if you use the sights.

Last year while I was qualifying for the Institutional SWAT Team I realized I was performing poorly because I was not using my sights, I had defaulted to point shooting.

I had to readjust myself and things are better now.

Thank you for an excellent learning tool.? I find myself saying ‘It’s about time’? while reading your lesson.

You correct industry errors that I have noticed numerous times.

Sincerely,
D.
