If the Military Can’t Train and Trust Their Soldiers Front Sight Can and Will…

We now know the real reason why military personnel are not allowed to be armed with personal defense weapons… The truth is that the military brass do not trust their military personnel with loaded weapons.
Under questioning over why four Marines were unarmed and defenseless against an armed terrorist shooting up a military recruiting center, military officials said security at recruiting and reserve centers will be reviewed, but the Army’s top officer said it’s too early to say whether the facilities should have security guards or other increased protection. “I think we have to be careful about over-arming ourselves, and I’m not talking about where you end up attacking each other,” Gen. Ray Odierno, chief of staff of the Army, told reporters. Instead, he said, “it’s more about accidental discharges and everything else that goes along with having weapons that are loaded that causes injuries.”
So there you have it. General Ray Odierno believes it is better to leave our military personnel sitting ducks to armed terrorists than to face the possible “accidental discharges and everything else that goes along with having weapons that are loaded that causes injuries.”
The comments came as Navy officials confirmed a separate incident outside Atlanta, where a recruiter accidently shot himself in the leg with his personal .45-caliber pistol while discussing the Tennessee shootings with one of his recruits. Officials said he showed the sailor the unloaded gun, then reloaded it and inadvertently discharged it as he was putting it back in his holster.
What we are really talking about here is a LACK of adequate training of military personnel in the carry and use of the defensive sidearm, leaving the military brass fearful of negligent discharges..

New Study: Over 12.8 million concealed handgun permits, last year saw by far the largest increase ever in the number of permits

Since President Obama’s election the number of concealed handgun permits has soared, growing from 4.6 million in 2007 to over 12.8 million this year. Among the findings in our report:
- The number of concealed handgun permits is increasing at an ever- increasing rate. Over the past year, 1.7 million additional new permits have been issued – a 15.4% increase in just one single year. This is the largest ever single-year increase in the number of concealed handgun permits.
- 5.2% of the total adult population has a permit.
- Five states now have more than 10% of their adult population withconcealed handgun permits.
- In ten states, a permit is no longer required to carry in all or virtually all ofthe state. This is a major reason why legal carrying handguns is growing somuch faster than the number of permits.
- Since 2007, permits for women has increased by 270% and for men by 156%. Over that period, there was a 178% increase in total permits.
- Some evidence suggests that permit holding by minorities is increasing more than twice as fast as for whites
