Front Sight Mailbag: Just the Right Amount of Attention
September 12th, 2016
Dear Dr. Piazza,
Well run, this was my third time at the handgun course, twice before I had achieved graduate level on the skills test. This time due to the help and instruction I achieved distinguished graduate. My shooting has stepped up to the next level. The instruction staff spent just the right amount of time, helping me get faster and more accurate but I never felt smothered. On previous course if you could shoot reasonably well I felt ignored by staff, this time I felt they gave me the right balance of instruction and time on my own to work on it. Often staff would give me advice and the next time they passed by comment whether I was getting it right or not. We had in the class few people with no firearms experience and staff devolved lots of time to them but ever at the expense of the rest of us. They did identify those who needed more help and gave the additional help they needed but I never felt it was at my expense. Those individuals that needed the extra help made 200% improvement from day 1 to day 4. When my daughter turns 11 this is the staff I would want at her first four day defensive handgun class. I feel this is the highest compliment I could give, because I would trust they would keep her safe, and teacher her well.
