Dr Piazza,
I wanted to commend you for what you have created at Front Sight.
It’s really an amazing accomplishment. I didn’t really get it until this past weekend when I took your 4 Day Defensive Handgun Course, left handed.
I first attended the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Class in September of 2007. I learned how much I didn’t know very quickly, but then was also shown, over those next few days, just what I needed to do to become safer and more proficient than the majority of the handgun owners out there.
I dry practiced over the next few months, then attended the class again and achieved Distinguished Graduate.
This past weekend, I brought my girlfriend out to do the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Course with me and decided to take the course left Handed!
I don’t think I’ve ever shot a weapon left-handed before in my life. It was VERY awkward at first, but doing the drills that you have set out, step by step, I became more and more comfortable and by the 4th day, I was shooting as well left handed as I’d done right!
Doing the “ragged hole” drill with the black square, I got every shot in the black.
I had a tough time with the malfunction drills. Again, I followed your instructors, who are very professional, and by the end, the awkwardness disappeared and I felt good doing them.
By the time I took the skill test, I was very comfortable with doing all of the drills left-handed and again scored Distinguished Graduate!
I realized that ANYONE can do this. One doesn’t need to be a World-class athlete to become very comfortable and proficient with firearms. The key is that Front Sight correctly teaches the proper weapons training technology. It’s that simple.
It’s one thing to be great at something, which as a 4 Weapons Combat Master, you obviously are. It’s a whole different ball game to be able to relay that knowledge so that others can understand and use it. You’ve done that at Front Sight. Everything is simple and understandable.
There are no big words thrown around to impress people.
When your instructors say something, they also demonstrate it very well so that we’re not left guessing at what they are talking about.
I honestly think anyone can walk this road and become very good with firearms. You’ve laid out a great road map.
Wanting this skill, taking the simple steps that you laid out and doing the dry practice will make anyone proficient.
