Front Sight Mail Bag: Pledging his Life to His Nation
April 29th, 2009
Dr. Piazza,
I have been getting your emails on a regular basis. The problem is in my case your preaching to the choir. As a two tour Nam VET I am appalled at how this nation has and is betraying us. You have a very LARGE base and are able to reach out to people that I cannot. Remind every VET out there that just because they were separated from the service, they we NOT relieved of the oath that they took! At no time was I informed that the oath no longer applied to me, or to my life.
I have lived my life with that always in mind. I pledged my life to this nation upon induction, and was not told ok forget it. That oath is just as viable today as it was then. Even more so today. We are faced with the threat of domestic enemies in our nations capital. I remember as a young lad, Kruschev stating that “…We will bury from within..” all the while banging his shoe on the podium at the U.N. I still have images of a past PLO leader wearing his sidearms into the U.N. and making a speech declaring us the enemy.
I am a disabled vet. Not a dead vet. I may only have one functioning arm, but by all that is Holy and sacred I pledge my life to this NATION, NOT the politicians.
Respectfully,
Paul B
Nam, 69-71
