Front Sight Mail Bag: Unlearning Bad Shooting Habits
April 22nd, 2011
Dr. Piazza
I have been shooting for over 25 years, and apparently have developed several poor habits which were very hard for me to unlearn in the four day course. Thanks to Justin’s direction, and especially the one-on-one instruction by Craig Bishop, both users of 1911 handguns, I learned the correct way to safety handle and fire my new Kimber 1911. While I was prohibited from performing certain training tasks due to my poor shooting habits, my overall experience was positive.
My overall rating for the Four Day Defensive Handgun Training Course is definitely a solid “10”.
The daily lectures were spot on and gave me a lot of things to consider if I am ever forced to use my handgun for self defense. This is not a “how to kill” course, but rather how to protect yourself if it becomes necessary to use your handgun, and the moral and legal ramifications in doing so. The main lecturer was great and he gave us a lot of relative case history situations we may face while carrying a handgun.
I shoot regularly at a local indoor range and I know my shooting buddies will be asking me about my experience at Front Sight. I will honestly be able to tell them it was great and I learned a lot about safely shooting my 1911 handgun.
Please feel free to share my observations with others, and please give my sincere “thanks” to Justin and Craig for their personal help during the course.
Thank you for this opportunity,
Stuart
