Front Sight Mailbag: I Didn’t Know What to Expect
February 25th, 2017
Dear Dr. Piazza,
I have already talked to my brother and son about the class. Basically I told them that the course exceeded my expectations. In part because I did not know what to expect; this was my first handgun class and I am new to handgun ownership. At the Front Sight class I learned how to check for an empty gun, properly present the weapon to the ready position, improved my grip and shooting performance, clear jams, and safely re-holster my gun. It also showed me that safe operation of the gun will take practice and learning how to practice was one of the key take-away. I have also shared my recollection of the moral and legal issues that were discussed. I had not given much thought to those issues but after hearing the lectures it has provided some sobering information about the consequences of using a gun in a defensive situation. My overriding impression is that if someone (like me) decides to buy a gun they should be required to take a similar course as part of the ownership process. I will be doing some dry practicing tonight.
